Each plate sits on a cream mount above a printed caption band that gives the bird in bold capitals, an invented locality line such as The High Ledges or The Iron Coasts, and a run of mock field data with elevation, latitude, longitude and a reference plate number. That deadpan archive framing is what separates the set from a plain reproduction. Audubon's Birds of America plates were issued from 1827 as hand-coloured engravings after his watercolours, printed life size on double elephant folio sheets. Browns, slate greys and bone whites make this a natural fit for an office, a study, a lodge hallway or a boy's room. Lustre is a beautiful finish which is somewhere between a Matte and a Gloss. If you're not sure what to choose then Lustre looks fantastic on al prints in our store. If you'd like your item printed onto a stiff watercolour-style paper which has a textured rougher surface then choose our \"textured\" option.
